Town of Matthews
Service Excellence Stories
March 28, 2016:  Officer Karen Greene was recognized by the mayor and Board of Commissioners as the 2015 Town of Matthews Employee of the Year. Karen serves as the community's DARE Officer, providing this critical program at three local elementary schools. Through those relationships, Karen gets to know 'her kids' very well. It was due to her commitment to these relationships that Karen learned of a teacher who had been awarded care & custody of three young children, The new family was in need; Officer Greene learned that the children did not have beds on which to get the much-needed rest to be healthy and successful students. Karen took it upon herself to partner with other school staff to purchase beds for 'their kids.' This family now not only has the much-needed beds for their young family, but the knowledge that there is a caring 'community' surrounding them each and every day.  Thank you Officer Karen Greene!
